Hello, I am Sayali Ghotikar
I am a Mumbai-born, Berlin-based photographer and visual artist with a background in Applied Arts and over 20 years of experience as a graphic designer. Fifteen years ago, I began exploring photography, which quickly evolved from a personal exploration into a powerful form of creative expression.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of showcasing my work in two solo exhibitions in Mumbai and participating in various group shows, which have allowed me to connect with diverse audiences and expand my artistic practice.
Now based in Berlin, I continue to explore the intersections of photography, visual storytelling, and design. Drawing on my multidisciplinary background, I create work that reflects my evolving perspective, shaped by the unique environments and experiences around me.
As a contemporary fine art photographer, I explore the idea that beauty can be found in the most unexpected and overlooked places. I believe that even in the darkest moments, there is light; in the most ordinary scenes, there exists something extraordinary. My work is a continuous search for the hidden layers of meaning in the mundane—finding beauty in the chaos, simplicity, and imperfection that surrounds us daily.
My artistic journey has been deeply influenced by my experiences in Mumbai, where the city’s frenetic energy revealed an unexpected sense of stillness and grace. Walking through the streets, I encountered remarkable individuals—from street vendors to beggars—who embodied resilience, humility, and quiet dignity. These encounters shifted my perspective, reminding me that real beauty often lies in life’s simplest and most unassuming moments.
At the heart of my practice is the belief in the transformative power of perspective. I am drawn to the overlooked, the forgotten, and the seemingly insignificant. By shifting how I view the world, I reveal beauty in the mundane—peeling paint, rusted surfaces, the marks left by time. These fragments, once seen as decay, become works of art that speak to imperfection, history, and transformation.
In my photography, I focus on minimalism, texture, and pattern. My images are less about subject matter and more about capturing the unique qualities of surfaces and spaces that often go unnoticed. What others might see as discarded or neglected, I see as a canvas full of story, texture, and meaning. Each photograph is an invitation to pause and reframe our perception of the everyday, to find the extraordinary within the simplest moments.
Through my lens, I aim to reveal the inherent beauty in the overlooked corners of life, encouraging a deeper engagement with the world around us. My work is a reflection of the subtle, yet profound narratives, that emerge when we shift our perspective and embrace the imperfect.
